Q. Why do I need a website when there'sFacbook?

A. You need both!

Your website and your social network presence should compliment each other. Promote your social networks on your website; promote your website through your social networks.

Social networking helps you build the number of folks who know your website and your business. In turn, more people will be using your service.

Here’s why: Google and other search engines rank your website based on the amount of “chatter” it produces, and social networking content is searchable.  In other words, every mention of your business on Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, etc. will increase search engine exposure to your website.

There are a few rules you should follow:

  1. Use your website for details; use your networks to spark an interest.
  2. Make every post interesting. Plan your posts in advance – some business even map out their monthly posts on a calendar.
  3. Don’t over do it! Too many posts will be ignored and serve only to clog up your readers’ inboxes. Limit your social network posts to three or four per week, and NEVER more than one post per day!
